I purchased the Nomad Cargo Bag for a camping trip and it performed fantastically.
it carried all of our camp chairs and collapsible table, along with our sleeping and clothes bags for a weekend in the mountains of Colorado. Was durable-no splits or tears and we had about 90-100 lbs in it. Carry handles were invaluable and included tie straps worked great also. If it were 6-8" longer this would be 6 stars, but our fly rods wouldn't fit.

My first 856 Nomad practically disintegrated during the first trip. The replacement bag has begun the same process after two 11-hour trips on the interstate. The inside liner is cracking and rips are begining in the outer liner. I have been careful not to exceed the 100 lbs. limit or to overstuff it. In hard rain, the first bag did not resist water at all.
The ease of use makes this an appealing product, but I have determined it would be better to pay more for a hard cover carrier. The material of this product is not suitable for highway driving, especially if it rains.

I had seen some negative reviews on the soft type cargo carrier but figured with a name like Thule it was worth buying. First time used, a wooden child safety barrier gate (with no sharp edges, and no stretching of the bag to accomodate it) had worn a 6 inch hole thru the rear of the bag in less than 200 miles travel. The only other things being carried were a couple of foam "boogie boards" and several beach toys and floats.
I wouldn't use this bag for anything more than soft clothing - the material is not as robust as winter jacket shell cloth - and nothing like the ballistic nylon that suitcases are made of.
Update: Thule wouldn't honor their "lifetime" warranty (product less than 2 months old) which was disappointing but Amazon gave me a full refund. Happy I purchased through Amazon.

Bought this for Spring Break run from Indiana to Florida. It held up extremely well and without leaks. Although we didn't test it with too much rain. It held 4 large duffle bags and a medium suitcase along with other things stuffed around. The closure seemed well done and the hold down straps were strong.
My only complaint is that it seemed to be missing 2 attaching straps from the bag to the car. It had 2 for attachment to the front of the bag to the front bar. But only 2 others, although there were places for 4 more attachments. I would have felt better with 2 additional straps. But nothing moved.
I did notice quite a bit more wind noise, but that is to be expected. The best part is that it is now in a pack about the size of a large dictionary. I WAS thinking about a hard case, and for as little as I will use it, I believe this was certainly the correct choice. I had a hard shell case one time, and although it was great to use, it was a pain the othere 99% of the time it was packed away.
I wouldn't go smaller than this one...

We were returning from the winter in Flordia to NY. Needing more space than we had in our Pathfinder we purchased this roof top bag. It did a great job for us. It was very secure added no extra noise. I would reccomend it.
