Hard to rate the product, since FogDog sent me a lesser product, but charged me the full price for this item. They claimed they did not have any more in stock, yet they were for sale at a higher price on their site, and funniest of all, they claim that when I did the order, they were out, yet when I refreshed the page, it showed their inventory as still having one left. If they cannot use software that keeps up with internet sales, then they need to go out of business. No reason given as to why I was sent a cheaper item (which was not what I ordered), yet charged for item I did order (higher priced). Did not offer to make this right at all. Best answer given was typical corporate "...we regret any inconvenience this may have caused..." Bad bait and switch attempt, I wish Amazon.com would have done something about this, but they stood by the merchant. Refunded my money, but that didn't solve the problem of their poor excuse nor their blatant attempt at ripping me off. Will not use Fogdog ever again.

Installation on factory roof rack is very user friendly; dial type clamps are easy to position correctly and hold very securely. Box is very stable even at highway speeds--no vibration or rattling and relatively minor wind noise. Dials for clamps infringe a bit on interior box space but convenience of the clamps makes the tradeoff worthwhile. Will hold 3 to 4 pr of alpine skis comfortably.

We took this car top carrier on a 12-hour road trip and got caught in a rainstorm that actually caused a bit of a flash flood. We sat in pouring rain for about a half hour (and I mean pouring--like being in a car wash) and everything stayed perfectly dry inside the carrier. Also, it never felt like we had a carrier on top of the car--very aerodynamic. Pretty expensive, but I'm glad I got it.

I like everything about this cargo: It is very easy to set up on top of our 2001 MDX (just put on top of the rack and tighten the clamps); it's very spacious (was able to fit all the bags for seven people for a week long trip); and comes with a lifetime warranty. There was a minor loss in mileage (about two miles per gallon, from 20 mpg to 18.5 mpg), and a little bit of wind noise at high speeds, but aside from that it is well worth the price. I definitely recommend this product.

We bought the Thule Ascent 1600 to use on our 2002 Mountaineer SUV and 2008 BMW 535. Ordering through Amazon was easy and saved us a bunch. We had a minor mix-up with ABF on delivery, but the box arrived in perfect condition just a day later than the expected delivery date.



Although the box is lightweight for its size, use two people to get it up on the roof. It is very easy to install: get it on your cross bars, orient as far back on your roof as will allow, and tighten down on the knobs. Takes less than 10 minutes to put on, even faster coming off. On our Mountaineer, the box fits nicely to the back of the car. No wind noise whatsoever and our mileage dropped about 1 mpg. On the BMW we use the BMW tranporter racks and the box fits great. Thule does not show the box as being a fit for the BMW, we've had no problems. The box is very similar in dimensions to the BMW-branded box you can order through the dealer at nearly twice the price. Wind noise is noticeable on the BMW but not annoying and our mpg drops by 2.



We fit a lot into the box. On a recent ski trip to Vermont, six adults/teens in the car, five pairs of skis, boots, poles, helmets and ski wear in the box. Without the box we couldn't take six on a trip like this with all the gear. Another ski trip we took the sedan with four adults and gear. We get 50% better mileage with the sedan vs the SUV so it is great being able to take the smaller car.



We highly recommend the Ascent 1600. Works great on sedans and SUVs. Easy and secure to install. It's everything it is advertised to be.

This is a nice mid-large size box that fits perfectly on our Audi A6 wagon as well as our Honda Odyssey van. While the Honda could certainly carry a larger box, the need to use this one on both vehicles was a priority. It fits the Audi like a glove without covering the satellite antenna. I really like the ability to open this from both sides. The clamping feature is top notch as well. When not in use on the cars, I clamp it upside down from the ceiling shelves in my garage. The only down-side is the cost, although the price on Amazon (delivered) is the best I found anywhere.

This cargo box provides everything you need for a summer vacation. Space, lightweight, portable, durability, easy locking, and easy to attach to the roof.

I have mine on a Chrysler Town and County and it fits perfectly. You will need to pay special attention to the rear gate. But, once you open the gate all the way, you can adjust.

The top lid is a little lighter than expected so closing can be tricky. Once you get it down and understand that the two locking mechanisms need to be free and clear, its easy.

Well worth it for the extra space or skis and boards. Out-of-the box had it on my Nissan Pathfinder in 5 minutes, great latching design. My guess is that it will fit almost all autos with cross bar roof racks. Loads of space, does seem a but long, the 1600 is a bit shorter and might look more proportional to my Pathifinder, this 1700 is probably best for the Tahoes, Escalades, and Yukons out there. In any case, awesome product, and Amazon has the best price and arrived (via some shipping company, not UPS) in about three days, pretty fast. No shipping issues for me.
