I purchased the Thule brand even though there were other less expensive models. I am one that believes that you get what you pay for. Not so true in this case. This is an excellent product but I didn't give it five stars because I didn't think it was heavy duty enough to warrant five stars. If you don't need the fold down feature that the Hull-a-Port Pro offers then I would recommend purchasing the less expensive "SportRack-Abr511". These are sold online and at Gander Mountain. After close inspection, it appears that the "SportRack" model and the Thule model may be manufatured at the same entity. The only difference is that the "SportRack" model doesn't have the ratcheting mechanism with the tie down ropes. The ratcheting mechanisms can be purchased separately. Overall I am satisfied with the Thule Hull-a-Port Pro but I believe that Thule products are a bit overpriced.

I use this to hold a 72lbs, 16' polypro tandem kayak and it keeps the boat secure and stable on top of my Explorer.
Highly recommended

Great racks--Thule makes good stuff. They were a bit pricey but Amazon had the best buy.

I really like the folding feature.
However, the racks are simply attached to the crossbars using screw on knobs. As such, the racks can be easily stolen.

Purchased this fold-down kayak mount for our two 9'-6" Wilderness Systems recreational kayaks, which mount on top of our 2008 Subaru Tribeca. I selected this model because of the nice and easy fold-down feature! The Thule Hull-A-Ports are mounted to Yakama cross bars. The Yakama cross bars were used because of the thick rubber coating and high strength. The coated bars keep from scratching things that I mount on top of the car when not using the kayaks, such as ladders and building materials. Have use the mounts for almost a year now and love them! I don't use the front and rear tie-downs because the kayak cross-over straps seem to be secure enough and I didn't want ropes rubbing against the vehicle painted surfaces. I traveled a whole summer with the kayaks attached to our Subaru with no problems. The straps and mounts stayed secure. I tied the excess strap material (after exiting the strap latches) to the mounts as an extra precaution.
